The Year Is 2025 and We Are Still Making Resolutions

Pact of Faith

Nine days into January and I am sure we can all say that the thrill of the New Year, Christmas, and Three Kings Day has probably worn off.

I might even wager to say that many of us are already wrestling with resolutions that feel harder to keep than we expected. Maybe you’ve committed to reading more, finally turning the garage into a home gym instead of a storage unit or even accepting the inevitable and booking that long-overdue trip to the barber to bid farewell to those last stubborn hairs clinging to your scalp for dear life.

All of the above are great goals. No judgement here, however—and just spit-balling here—what if the key to actually fulfilling these resolutions isn’t found in buying a Kindle and Swedish death cleaning? What if the key to fulfilling these goals is much simpler?

What do you think would happen if we made the conscious decision to surrender to God's will and believe that all else, all of the good things He has in store for us, will follow?

The Bible says in the book of Revelations 3:8 that Jesus says, “See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.”

If we hold onto that promise as believers, shouldn’t the only resolution that truly matters—the one that unlocks every other door—be committing to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ?

"Yeah, but how is following Christ going to help me clean out my garage?" Fair question. Here’s the thing: when you commit to a deeper relationship with Jesus, He doesn’t just stay in the spiritual parts of your life—He transforms all of it. Suddenly, cleaning out your garage isn’t just about decluttering; it’s about creating space for peace, order, and maybe even that long-promised home gym.

When we let Christ guide us, even the most mundane tasks take on purpose. He gives us clarity to prioritize, strength to tackle what feels overwhelming, and joy in the process.

The point is that when we make Jesus the center of our lives, something shifts.
  • Direction becomes clear. Spending time in His Word and in prayer illuminates our next steps, even when life feels uncertain.

  • Strength is renewed. Resolutions often fail because we try to achieve them in our own strength. Jesus invites us to draw on His power instead.

  • Priorities align. When we focus on Christ, He helps us discern what truly matters and let go of what doesn’t.

Who cares if the New Year’s confetti and the cake is all gone. What matters is that you've been gifted another day, another opportunity to start fresh with Jesus! Here’s how:

  1. Prioritize daily time with Him. Open your Bible and let God speak to you.

  2. Pray with purpose. Talk to God about your goals and ask for His guidance.

  3. Stay connected to community. Surround yourself with believers who will encourage and sharpen you.

Jesus promises to open doors that no one can shut—and nobody means nobody. But the first step is letting Him into every area of our lives.

So, let this be the year of open doors—not because we’ve mastered our plans, but because we’ve surrendered to His.
